I began dating Sue, the wonderful woman who became my wife, when we were both 16. And like most young couples in love, we were inseparable. We spent as much time together as possible. But once, while away from her on the road with Children of the Light, I wrote this song as both an expression of my love for her and gratitude to God for the rich relationship he had given us that remained constant even when we were apart.

Away

Words & music by Randy Boldt

Sometimes in the hours
When the day grows still around me
I feel your heart beating close to mine
So soft and tenderly

I reach for you and yet I know
My arms they shall not find
But Jesus gives me eyes to see you
And I hold you in my mind

Your eyes so blue come to me
They say love beyond the words
And even if we’d never spoke it
I’m sure we would have heard

Our love is like the star of the north
Forever bright and true
For lovers who have lost their way
To show what God can do

To him we give our life, our love
And our dreams which now unfold
And all the days to come to us
To have, to care, to hold

And now that I have said the whole
Of that upon my heart
I’ll say it once again and always
I know it’s just the start
